For the 3rd movement of LaStrada 2020 Samson Ogiamien, sculptor and performer (NG/AT) and Juri Cainero, musician and director of the site specific theater company Onyrikon (CH/FR) will perform short poetical acts in different squares of Graz.
In colonial times many ritual objects were stolen to become museum objects. Would it be possible nowadays to transform a museum object into a ritual object through an artistic act?
In 2018 at Graz’s Volkskundemuseum, a sculpture of the Nigerian artist Samson Ogiamien was symbolically stolen during a performance. In January 2020 a bronze mask of Iyagbon was created by Ogiamien with the royal bronze casters guild in Benin City, in 2021 the mask will travel to Graz, where it will be brought to life through theater, music and dance, thus an artistic ritual will take place.
But the echo of Iyagbon’s songs can already be heard in the streets of Graz.
